Chemical Peels

Gładka skóra twarzy po peelingu chemicznym

Late autumn and early winter is the ideal time to prepare your skin for harsher weather conditions. Chemical peels are the best tools to achieve this. Such cosmetic treatments are aimed at peeling dead epidermis cells and smoothing the skin. If you have an unwanted souvenir from the summer in the form of discolouration or spots and you would like to get rid of them, you should choose a chemical peel.

How do chemical peels work and what types of peels do we distinguish?

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments which involve the application of a mix of active chemicals of a specific concentration on the skin to accelerate cell renewal. The most frequently used chemicals include glycolic acid obtained from sugar cane, which belongs to fruit acids. Other popular acids are mandelic acid, lactic acid, phytic acid, azelaic acid, and ferulic acid. These chemicals peel dead epidermis cells, penetrate deep into the skin and have an influence on the regeneration of epidermis and skin. They also have anti-ageing effects, eliminate signs of ageing, such as discolouration, fine lines, matt skin with no radiance. Chemical peels prove well when reducing such skin defects as, for example, scars, blackheads, pimples, “enlarged pores”, erythema and other imperfections. Chemical peels are extremely effective and guarantee quick effects.

Depending on the depth of penetration, peels may be divided into:

  • superficial peels – which only penetrate the epidermis,
  • medium-depth peels – which penetrate through the entire epidermis and the upper layer of the dermis,
  • deep peels – which penetrate down into deeper skin layers.

There are various examples of chemical peels, e.g.: Yellow Peel, Nomelan, Ferulac Peel, SPA Peel, Salipeel, Glycopeel, Lactipeel, Azelac RU, Mandelac Peel, C-Peel. They mainly differ by the depth of penetration and the resulting intensity and degree of peel. This depends, for example, on configuration or concentrations of individual active ingredients in chemical peels.

Our specialist will select the peel appropriate for the clients’ problems and skin defects. During the consultation preceding the treatment, past and present diseases as well as allergies, prior aesthetic medicine treatments and drugs taken are discussed.

Main indications for chemical peel:

  • skin discolouration: freckles, melasma, spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation;
  • skin lesions related to age: wrinkles, loss of skin firmness;
  • scars;
  • acne with blackheads and acne with papulopustular lesions;
  • stretch marks;
  • disturbed keratosis: dry skin, follicular keratosis;
  • grey or sallow complexion, with no radiance (chemical peel as an excellent method for refreshing the skin).

Main indications for chemical peels:

  • active skin infections (herpes);
  • dark skin (high phototype);
  • general treatment with retinoids during several previous months;
  • exposure to the sun within 2 weeks of the peel;
  • skin allergies;
  • pregnancy and breast-feeding;
  • autoimmune diseases;
  • irritated, damaged skin (erosions, abrasions);

Immediately before certain peels, ultrasound cavitation may be performed to strengthen the effect.

Treatments with chemical peels require regular home care. Appropriately selected cosmetics may be purchased from our parlour. Before the treatment, it is important to prepare the skin properly for chemical peel by, for example, applying a product containing a low concentration of acids chosen by the specialist appropriately to specific indications. Following the treatment, is should also be remembered that good quality moisturisers should be used. The skin should also be protected from sunlight by using mineral filters, chemical filters, C and E vitamins, phytic acid, and allantoin. Supplements rich in antioxidants, protein and essential fatty acids are also recommended.

After treatment, sun tanning and tanning beds should be avoided for approximately a month. Creams with AHA acids should be used for about 2 weeks. Flaking epidermis should not be scraped off or torn. Make-up should not be applied for approx. 24 hours immediately after the treatment.
